Bonnie bought a rubber band gun in a little gift shop. She is going to give it to Carlo for his birthday next month. (please don't anyone tell him this) When she was paying for it the clerk asked her if she was planning on using it on her fellow passengers. She assured him that she wasn't. Maybe by the end of the tour she will have changed her mind. Seriously, we have met some really nice folks!

We arrived in Rockford, Illlinois about 5:30 in the pouring rain. The forecast is for 4-6 inches of SNOW. Yikes, I packed for spring, not winter!

WARNING....

I am so sorry!

I am so sorry but I cannot find a "spell check" any place on this blogging site. This could be disasterous for me. I am severelyhandicapped in both spelling and grammar. So, I am BEGGING you ahead of time to not hold this against me!

Hang in there! Soon there will be pictures and fewer words!

My first ever BUS tour....

how to maintain you sanity on a bus tour--Part 1

Get to know your fellow passengers—Everyone has to write down one unique thing about themselves. The tour guide then reads off the passengers' name and their unique “characteristic.” It was fun to hear what each person picked to say about themselves. My sister said, “On this trip, I am rooming with the same person I roomed with over thirty years ago.” (that’s me, in case you are wondering).

Play a guessing game—Tour guide has a small black film (do you remember what film is?) container tightly sealed with tape. Inside she has placed 30 different items. The passengers were to make a list of what they thought might be inside. I seriously doubted there could possibly be 30 items crammed inside that thing! When everyone has prepared their list, the guide opens the container and holds up each of the 30 items squeezed inside. I guessed 7 items correctly—the winner had 14 correct answers! Oh, you want to know what was in the container. Okay, here you go: safety pin, toothpick, ribbon, rubber band, postage stamp, dental floss, eye brow pencil, crayon, band aid, ear plug, match stick, plastic bag, candy wrapper, pony tail holder, luggage key, mailing label, bean, breath mint, nickel, link of a chain, dime, penny, rice, pill, pea, paper clip, button, thumb tack, marble and a small plastic bag.

And play another guessing game-- We all took a stab at guessing the total miles we are going to travel in the course of our 12 day trip. I guessed 1,900! Do you think I am close? I didn’t have a clue what to guess! Our guesses were sealed in a special envelope which will be opened by our driver upon our return!

And yet another guessing game--The tour guide and the driver take turns singing a few lines from 20 famous songs. The passengers guess who made the song famous. Out of 20 songs, I got only 5 correct! Some of the artists were: Johnny Cash, Frank Sinatra, Doris Day, Jimmy Durante, Roy Rogers, Nate King Cole, Tiny Tim, etc. There were people who got 15-18 correct. Does this tell you anything about the average age of this group?

Okay, I'm packing my swim suit.....

but that doesn't mean I will really put it on!

I called my sister this morning to find out what she was packing, how much cash she was taking and if she was bringing a blow dryer--no sense in me packing one if she is bringing one. I never should have called her! She talked me into taking a swimming suit on our travels! I shouldn't have let her "boss" me around like that! She said we will need it so we can sit in the hot tub in the evening and relax. Or, we may want to get some exercise in the pool. Oh, what have I gotten myself into this time! I swore I never would appear in public in a bathing suit after I turned 50. But she was so convincing and I fell for it! To please her, I packed it BUT that doesn't mean I will really put it on!

When preparing to travel......

When preparing to travel, lay out all your clothes and all your money. Then take half the clothes and twice the money.
