Get to know your fellow passengers—Everyone has to write down one unique thing about themselves. The tour guide then reads off the passengers' name and their unique “characteristic.” It was fun to hear what each person picked to say about themselves. My sister said, “On this trip, I am rooming with the same person I roomed with over thirty years ago.” (that’s me, in case you are wondering).
Play a guessing game—Tour guide has a small black film (do you remember what film is?) container tightly sealed with tape. Inside she has placed 30 different items. The passengers were to make a list of what they thought might be inside. I seriously doubted there could possibly be 30 items crammed inside that thing! When everyone has prepared their list, the guide opens the container and holds up each of the 30 items squeezed inside. I guessed 7 items correctly—the winner had 14 correct answers! Oh, you want to know what was in the container. Okay, here you go: safety pin, toothpick, ribbon, rubber band, postage stamp, dental floss, eye brow pencil, crayon, band aid, ear plug, match stick, plastic bag, candy wrapper, pony tail holder, luggage key, mailing label, bean, breath mint, nickel, link of a chain, dime, penny, rice, pill, pea, paper clip, button, thumb tack, marble and a small plastic bag.
And play another guessing game-- We all took a stab at guessing the total miles we are going to travel in the course of our 12 day trip. I guessed 1,900! Do you think I am close? I didn’t have a clue what to guess! Our guesses were sealed in a special envelope which will be opened by our driver upon our return!
And yet another guessing game--The tour guide and the driver take turns singing a few lines from 20 famous songs. The passengers guess who made the song famous. Out of 20 songs, I got only 5 correct! Some of the artists were: Johnny Cash, Frank Sinatra, Doris Day, Jimmy Durante, Roy Rogers, Nate King Cole, Tiny Tim, etc. There were people who got 15-18 correct. Does this tell you anything about the average age of this group?
